If the question goes, "Is that his mom's fence?" ... and it is easy to falter there. If, then.
What the question means is that a particular notorious celebrity has accomplished yet another self-inflicted wound of grievous stupidity, and it was over a year ago that I had occasion to wonder why every time I see news of someone, it's the kind of stupidity nobody is supposed to be taking seriously, in the first place; and in the moment, it was easy enough to observe that neither should the question be construed to suggest taking such manner of self-denigration seriously would be at all helpful.
There is a joke about where he gets his coffee, because apparently liberals secretly admire Donald Trump. Oh, yeah, hey, there's the followup tweet, considering the question of leaving the self-inflicted to bleed for the sake of politics, and what that would mean about the psychological wellness of those around us.
It's like the part where he scheduled a press conference to bring down a spotlight political figure with a sexual harassment complaint, and wound up accused of swindling their witness and forging her statement. Somewhere along the way tried to facilitate this bizarre scheme by inventing a fake intel firm, which could be tracked back to his mother's phone.
Next, they had a legendary press conference at CPAC, with the whole thing falling apart because they didn't want to answer for their last disastrous scheme, and just for bonus a prior-gen rightwing conspiracist hoaxer showed up to yell at Twitter for banning her, resulting in CPAC banning her. Spectacle, certes, but still.
Like the time Twitter suspended him for using fake accounts, which they figured out when he boasted of having created them.
And as the FBI was investigating the sex harassment swindle he ran with a well-known GOP operative, he managed to film himself reporting to police death threats allegedly sent to him, including one from a fake Twitter account he created. That is, already under investigation for faking a sex harassment accusation, he faked a death threat against himself and reported it to police.
And then ...
(yes, really)
... he and the GOP operative got caught on tape recruiting men to accuse Pete Buttigieg of sex assault.
And for four months my Twitter feed has managed to say nothing about this person.
Until today: For whatever reason, his latest stunt, as the tweet that reached me explained, is, "Pretending to travel the world but forgetting to pose in front of a different fence".
And no, she ain't kidding.
I wonder whose fence it is.
And, sure, fake travel photos probably make a less-damaging pastime than, say, masterminding sex crime fantasies, which in turn is probably better than ... er ... never mind, that was prior-gen, inexplicable, and tangential.
Nonetheless, at some point even we who cringe and criticize probably owe our human neighbor a genuine response: So, uh, dude, like, I mean, y'know … you okay?
It's one thing to not pay attention, to not go looking for the intersection of whatshisname and unbearable stupidity, but the sad tales still find their way through, and if we are to doubt his competency, then at some point we must necessarily attend the fact of self-destructive behavior.
For the moment, though, I haven't a clue what comes next.
