The "lump of meteor" is thought to be the rock upon which the prophet Muhammad died and rose to heaven on.
The first two comments in this thread sound very demeaning in the use of the words: "prance" and "useless." Just because you may not completely understand the principles of another religion, is no reason to make light of it. The "prancing" they do is walking around the icon several times (seven counter-clockwise revolutions, I believe). The "useless" kissing they do is to show respect and love for who they believe is the prophet of Allah, who also kissed the stone. The stone itself is not an object of worship, but kissing the stone is a respectful emulation of the prophet.
Please show some respect for religions, even if you do not fully understand them. If you are serious about learning about another religion, it's much easier to jump on http://www.google.com/ and type in the religion. That way, if you have any contempt, no one else needs to hear it.

That is an awfully broad brush you paint Christians with. It is only the Roman Catholics, which worship statues, and the Eastern (Greek) Orthodox, which worship paintings (icons). A protestant would not be caught dead worshipping a graven image.
