Because people who see how it works with the kosher and halal goofyness, from the outside where there's no tradition, are supposed to have better sense.
But nothing in the link seems to involve food superstitions - just eating less of whatever. Presumably those who find themselves eating less from encouragement, rather than more from depression and frustration, while in the company of the saved and Godly, are already past the stage of philosophical considerations.
