What in your opinion, is the greatest search engine? This is for a class, so please help and contribute. I vote google.:D

Hey,

Porf or anyone interested could make some money on this.
If you could conduct a similiar larger poll than this and submit info to various Engines.

Brilliant thread i must say.

:D

the apps came in a suite. all but webferret has been discontinued.
it is not very functional cos the apps point towards old url's or defunct web sites. the targets are hardwired into the app (no cfg or ini files to modify) so its quite useless.

the killer app for search is copernic. give it a try.

there are probably only 4 major engines that web portals use. these are google, fast, inktomi and altavista.

google is god

What's the obsession with "Google?" Yahoo has games, categories, ect. Google just has the search engine.

My first search engine was AOL. It was horrible. I haven't tried it in months, but it might be better since they combined with Google.

The reason I said Webferret?

Goggle only uses its own data base. It doesn't look outside of that. Weferret actually queries other search engines.

I used to use dogpile, before I found google (mind you this was at least four years ago, when the idea of not being fully familiar with google was actually plausable). But I quit useing it because in theroy meta search is a great idea, but in actuality, it does no good to get results fron fifteen sites, if most of them are crap like yahoo and excite. Hotbot used to be a favorite too, but once at this juncture, google is the undisputed heavy weight champion of the world (I almost said universe, but I have yet to use any seach engines developed by citizens of forigen planets).:bugeye:

Almost forgot to mention, ask.com still hold a very respctable second place because it produces good results from queries that are presented in proper English syntax. I often have too put in lots of nonsence to get what I want at google when I am researching very obscure subjets. On that subject, how does one properly fold a Tibetan flag?
