This is interesting looking game, and me somewhat game maniac will give this a try in future.
The motive to create this game was that the game then would help
to create AI, because all the rules in the game was made so that
raw calculating power doesnt help that much like in chess,
wiki has pretty good article on that.
There is also annual Arimaa event, computer vs human with
17 000 $ price to whom can deliver winning program.

Arimaa is a two-player abstract strategy board game that can be played using the same equipment as chess. Arimaa has so far proven to be more difficult for artificial intelligences to play than chess.

Arimaa was invented by Omar Syed, a computer engineer trained in artificial intelligence. Syed was inspired by Garry Kasparov's defeat at the hands of the chess computer Deep Blue to design a new game which could be played with a standard chess set, would be difficult for computers to play well, but would have rules simple enough for his four-year-old son Aamir to understand. ("Arimaa" is "Aamir" spelled backwards plus an initial "a"). In 2002 Syed published the rules to Arimaa and announced a $10,000 prize, available annually until 2020, for the first computer program (running on standard, off-the-shelf hardware) able to defeat a top-ranked human player in a match six games or longer[1]. The Syeds have been awarded a patent on the Arimaa rules, and the name "Arimaa" is trademarked; see below for more.
