Are we being snowed under with religion/God orientated threads?

I certainly think so.........

Why do some religious people see the need to push God and/or gripe about Atheism every day?
By the same token why do some Atheists go out of their way to "stir the pot"with our religious friends?

I mentioned here a while back, that while my wife is a good Christian in the true and desired sense of the term, and I have an Agnostic attitude with regards to the subject, we remain and have for thirty three years, good friends and still lovers.
She tolerates my doubt without any preaching and/or God bothering with me, and I tolerate her sometimes excessive giving attitude, going to church every Sunday [which requires me to give her a lift] and saying grace at every meal.

TOLERATION...That seems to be the key, at least in my personal situation.

Is this why some recommend that religion and politics should never be discussed?
Personally, I try and stay in the middle of the road with both religion and politics.

I noticed the same thing. When I check the new posts there are always some that relate to religion, and this on a science forum.

When I first found the site - very recently - I was surprised that there were several topics about religion.

I have no problem with theism but I'm not sure it belongs here.

I don't mind the odd discussion, afterall I have participated in it myself, but it is every day, in two or three different threads, and others being rasied to add to the discussions... *shrug*
Just an observation of mine.

"While religious tolerance is surely better than religious war, tolerance is not without its liabilities. Our fear of provoking religious hatred has rendered us incapable of criticizing ideas that are now patently absurd and increasingly maladaptive."
-Sam Harris
For me i would choose freedom from religion over freedom of religion any day of the week without hesitation.

If people want to discuss religion and atheism in a religion subforum, what's so horrible about that? Free speech and debate is good for an intellectual community. Are you advocating censorship here in an attempt to make everyone shut up and just get along?

So who gets to decide the frequency of thread topics here? Not even moderators do that.

Perhaps that question should be directed at our religious friends and/or God botherers?
It appears to be the same forumites everyday....and no, I'm not asking for any censorship at all, just wondering why it happens and why people can't be tolerent of each others beliefs.

Perhaps the title of the thread is misleading...
My question is more about tolerance.

People like to debate and to process their own experiences. This forum provides a free space for that to happen in. What can I say? It doesn't mean they're bad intolerant people. Just human..

I find this site to be extremely generous with its religion section, and it's been great to read others' views on their own beliefs, whether they are of a religious nature or not.

Here's to Agnosticism, paddoboy. :D

Pffft. In a relational universe, if the relation is: "is part of", then the concept of God is related to religions, but the relation isn't symmetric (in theory), because the converse isn't necessarily true. I think a lot of people make the mistake of assuming that God is about religion, but I think religions came after the fact: our concept of God is 'almost' innate.

i personally think religion threads should be kept out of general philosophy area. it is entirely reasonable for each area of discussion to remain separated, and that way, anyone who doesn't want to see religion topics can just stay out of the religion forum. People should also learn the skill of talking about one thing at a time. Pull the comparative religions out of the main science area since social sciences are not usually intermingled with the physical sciences, that way if someone doesn't scroll down the page with the browser the sciforum can be as sci as anyone wishes.

The the word tolerance has nowadays been twisted to mean acceptance.
