Are truth and morality mutually exclusive?

um again it depends on your moral code. If your moral code says you must always lie (like the mythical person in that brain teaser where one must always lie) then yes its compleatly mutually exclusive. However if the truth is part of your moral code (as it is to all health proffessionals) then its fundermental to maintaining your ethics

again a stupid question

He means have we developed morality to protect the weak and the vulnerable from the harsh 'truths' of nature, I expect. I think that's largely, um.. true. Can't really say whether there are exceptions to the general rule though - mainly because we're left to assume too much.

Good question!

Sometimes I feel like it is. A lot of social policy is based off morality, or at least social values, which has little grounding in demonstrateable truth.

I guess I see what you mean, but I don't agree. In my opinion, morality is simply a code to govern the interactions between various members of a rational species. It all basically boils down to the golden rule: Do unto others as you'd have others do unto you. I see no conflict with truth in this.

This is not about individual examples. Are you unable to present your views on an abstractly presented topic, to demonstrate what the essence of your reasoning about truth and morality is?
Sure, but as I said above, I see no conflict between them. So I was asking for clarification in the assumption that I didn't really understand what he was saying.

Are truth and morality mutually exclusive?
No, but neither are they always compatible. Truthfully telling someone that they have an incurable disease, or that their "lost" child is in fact dead, may sometimes be immoral.
