Are people today better off?

These days all areas of technology are getting extremely advanced, but are we all better off, as people?

I have this subject as a debate, so it is making me think.
Is the world getting unsafe and unpredictable, and do we know enough about everything we use?
People live for a lot longer these days, but there is a lot more reasons for death.

As always some people learn how to use the new technology and others don't. Those that do will benifit for that is what they want to have. As a whole technology is a double edge sword for it greatly helps some people while hurting other things like the environment and freedoms. Saying that, isn't the computer one of the best things to ever come along, we can sure do alot with it can't we.
