A smacked child is a successful child, study finds

I can't seem to find the actual study. According to all the major databases, "Marjorie Gunnoe" hasn't published anything since 2006. The linked article doesn't give the journal name. Anyone know where it is?

Who pays for all these fuckin useless studies?

Next week there will be another useless study saying spanking makes kids have a low IQ or EQ.

When the revolution comes, I'm gonna get rid of those useless statisticians and poll'rs

So one minute we have a study saying that spanking lowers IQ. Next we have one saying spanked kids are SUCCESSFUL!

I'm very sceptical. Post hoc ergo propter hoc, anyone? I would love to see some evidence that shows that a slap when you're a kid directly means success when you're older.

Perhaps people who smack their kids are just stricter in general, and so enforce better study habits on their children.

Well, maybe there's mor to it than we're wanting to admit? I mean, think about it for a moment, ....aren't most of us often complaining about whinning, weak, whimps? Can you imagine people in the old days, Daniel Boone, Lewis and Clark, Davy Crockett, et.al., and during World War II whining and whimping out? And in those days, parents smacked their little kids when they did something wrong.

Yeah.

I agree. I think that if they've been hit as a child that they will work harder to get away from this place and they get smarter out of necessity.

Can't .....they might smack back.

Why not tie people up and give them a good public whipping? Like the good old days when hanging effigies was all fun and games. When you were a kid.

But, James, how many times have you wanted to smack some adult?

It's never happened since I grew up. Did you ever grow up?

Why not tie people up and give them a good public whipping? ...

Can't! You damned mamby-pamby liberals have forced new laws that make it illegal. But it sure would cut down on a lot of problems in discipline.

Baron Max: "But, James, how many times have you wanted to smack some adult?"

It's never happened since I grew up.

...LOL! Sure can't tell it sometimes by the things you post when you're angry and pissed off. :D

You've never in your adult life wanted to smack someone? You never got drunk in college and got in a fight? You never had someone just piss you off to the point you wanted to rip his head off?

Being an adult doesn't mean you become an emotionless robot, you know. It just means you learn to restrain yourself.

As to the OP, of course well disciplined children are more successful than spoiled brats.

Don't we?

Not as a way of imposing discipline. Corporal punishment was eliminated from our system of punishment, in favour of imprisonment, over a century ago now.

People still have brawls, of course, but they're essentially acting like babies. Many fights happen when people are drunk and have no self control.

You've never in your adult life wanted to smack someone?

No.

You never got drunk in college and got in a fight?

No. If I have a drink it's in a social situation where the aim is fun, not fighting.

You never had someone just piss you off to the point you wanted to rip his head off?

When I was young, yes. Now I'm an adult, no.

Being an adult doesn't mean you become an emotionless robot, you know. It just means you learn to restrain yourself.

Exactly.

As to the OP, of course well disciplined children are more successful than spoiled brats.

Failing to smack your child does not mean your child is a spoiled brat.

I lived with a dominatrix very briefly, in California. No hanky panky, we were just friends. But still, she was spankalicious.

Rich people are neurotic, too

No, but she is a professor at a small Christian college: Calvin College.

More generally, and probably usefully, we can't figure her context until we find the original study.

For instance, how do we define "success" for the purposes of this study?

haha... maybe they're happier because they have a low IQ? Eureka! The perfect society!
