A question about making theories of time

here's a question for everyone in this tread. If a person were to travel into the future would they see themselves in the future or would that be impossible seeing as they stoped all future actions they would make just by traveling to the future.

a person travelling into the future would a person travelling into the future. they would see themselves travelling into the future and then stopping at some point in the future. there would not be two of that person, so they would not "see themselves" as external to themselves, as "themselves" would be on a time machine until they stopped being on the time machine.

Rosa: to answer your question...yes!

All chemical reactions would slow down relative to the same reactions in another reference frame.

No, since they went into the future, they skipped a huge chunck of time. That chunck of time says that that person never existed during that time, therefore when he reached the future, he will being a new existence of himself at that point of the future.

u have the same view as i do, (damn near exact) but wes might have a different one thats all . :m: but if you have any more ideas on time you care to share im all ears. I love this stuff :D

you can't "skip time". to travel into the future, the only known way is to travel close to the speed of light for some amount of time, like in the example I gave about the 40 years and such. when you get back, you have only experienced 40 years whereas on earth say 80 years have passed. you should be in 2044, but instead when you get back, it's 2084. That is time travel into the future. There was no "you" that you pass, because "you" are on the ship travelling at .999999c or whatever.

lets say a person were to go back in time are there any rules against a person being in the same place at the same time? or do i watch to many sci-fi flicks?

are there any speculations or theories as to what would be the consiquence (if any) if one were to come face to face with ones self in the past?

Scientists speculate that it would be a very socially awkward experience. And then the universe will explode.

lol! any other speculations? by the way nice avatar. I laugh every time i see it. :D

Oh and you never said anything about your dreams regarding my comments on meaning.

Thanks for remembering. :) I didn't forget about it, but I haven't dreamt on it yet, at least not properly. :bugeye:

I will get back to you with it - if it won't be too stupid.
