you speak dutch, sam?

Utterly negligible; used to know some guys who promoted us in Mumbai from ABN Amro; and I met Tom van't hek when he was still coach of the women's hockey team. I was working with the Indian men's field hockey team at the time. He taught me some Dutch words. We conducted a clinic together. Fun times!

At least that French cartoon is almost understandable. Dutch is a strange and alien language.

It isn't based on latin, is it? What is it's derivation? From Martian? Wait. That's Basque... Well. Dutch is pretty damn weird too.

(Ok. I've never actually heard Basque. Or even seen it printed for that matter. But, it is an oddball language I've heard. An anomoly.)

actually, dutch is a pretty simple language..well, i wouldnt say THAT..i would say that it isnt a difficult language. it is a strange admixture of german, french, and english, all rolled up into one. it took me three months to be comfortable speaking in public, but a year and a half later, it is nothing to me.

imagine a gay frenchman speaking german...and you have dutch. that is how i learned to pronunciate correctly, actually...by imitating what that would sound like. it is a cool language....simple enough to learn, and fun enough to practice regularly.

athelwulf and i will periodically speak on yahoo, i will speak dutch at him, and he speaks german. we understand eachother perfectly. that is how similar it is.

i speak a mixture of "Antwerpen/Gentse" flemish.
for non-speakers...imagine the equivalent to a bronx accent..haha!

he he...an american speaking flamish...he he...

Almost as funny as Lambik.

yeah, im an anomaly here......

most americans that live here speak english exclusively.

i consider that to be rude to the culture, so i speak with the back of my throat for now.
funny enough, my accent comes through sometimes, and clerks in stores will automatically answer me in english..my lady and i speak english pretty much exclusively to eachother, so sometimes we will be in a public place, and clerks will just automatically assume we cant speak dutch. :D

belgians are a funny little people.

By speaking english or broken finnish or sex.
i have never heard of a dutch person that has no talent for learning languages. i was under the impression that the dutch were like the belgians (natural polyglots from hell).

I'm getting too old to learn anything, language or quantum physics.

I do speak English as you might have noticed and German. That's about 3 languages more than the average American.

(Guess what is the 3rd language)
